If there’s one thing Drew and Jonathan know, it’s good kitchen design. Throughout their renovations, you can see how they mix style with functionality seamlessly to create cooking spaces that feel lived-in yet refined. From their standout green kitchens to their sleek and minimalist white kitchens and even colorful designs that embrace pattern and tone, each renovation has been thoughtfully curated. With so much to get inspired by, we went through our rolodex to showcase some of their best kitchen decorating ideas to date.

Whether you’re looking to refresh to your cabinetry, revamp your kitchen island design, or do something a little more substantial, these renovations will help you find the look that fits your style. After you figure out where you’re going overall, you can focus in on the details, like choosing a great piece of kitchen island decor or a few barstools. Time to get inspired!

01

Mix Playful Color with Warm Wood

In their parents’ new Los Angeles home, Drew and Jonathan knew they wanted to make Jim and Joanne’s space one that perfectly suits their needs. As grandparents, they needed plenty of room for entertaining little ones as well as their dear friends from out of town, so a substantial island was a must. Pairing warm-toned woods with playful robin’s egg blue in the cabinetry (which was inspired by Parker’s high chair!), and finishing with gleaming gold hardware made the space a welcoming, standout spot that just begs to be cooked in.

02

Add an Interesting Tile

We love statement tile, especially in the kitchen. It can make a huge impact and add serious wow factor, especially when placed in unexpected spots like around the range hood or the base of the island (as seen here). Pick a style that complements your kitchen’s color story, or go for something bold and colorful for a more dynamic design.

03

Go for a Patterned Floor

Neutral doesn’t have to be boring! This kitchen is outfitted in gray, white, and black, but is still memorable thanks to the patterned floor tile. Having a focal point like the flooring can be great for many homes, as it means you can keep the rest of the finishes simple.

04

Add Ceiling Beams

Doesn’t this kitchen just make you want to say, “aaah”? The white cabinets, backsplash, and countertops give off such a calming feel. Still, it’s far from boring thanks to sleek wood accents and black leather barstools.

05

Opt for Bright and Simple

If sleek and chic is your ideal kitchen decorating style, then you’ll likely flock to this space. Everything is hidden beautifully behind a wall of cabinets, while a large waterfall island adds a little something extra. Simple barstools and light fixtures tie the space together.

06

Paint It a Serene Green

Yes, you can be colorful! Here, Drew and Jonathan proved just that by mixing two shades of calming green (a lighter and a darker) on the cabinetry. Because the wall cabinets are the lighter hue, it keeps the room feeling bright versus dark and cramped.

07

Add Pops of Pink for Warmth

Have a little fun with pattern and color. This kitchen pulls it off with a calming color scheme (a faint minty-blue, a pale pink, and a cream) that’s incorporated throughout the kitchen. With white as the primary background color, these pops of color are fun and therefore not out of place.

08

Try Something Traditional

Traditional design fans will love digging into this kitchen. There’s something so classic about the island with gold hardware and open shelving to show off heirloom treasures. The gray backsplash tile and stainless-steel appliances keep it stunning and simple, while the black matte light fixtures bring in that touch of modernity.

09

Make a Small Space Mighty With Function

Working within a small footprint? That doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice one bit on style. Take a page out of this kitchen’s book by incorporating plenty of closed storage options so your space doesn’t feel cluttered. If you have an open floor plan as well, try choosing light fixtures, rugs, or other decor elements that match or tie into the adjoining space so the flow is just right.

10

Go for a Sleek Modern Moment

This kitchen is streamlined and modern—some of our favorite things! Because the cabinets and island are clean and simple, there’s room for an interesting backsplash that isn’t your average subway tile. Woven stools are also a little unexpected, as is the pop of color from a simple art print on the counter.

11

Design a Room Gilded in Glam

Fans of glam can find tons of ideas in this gilded kitchen. Copy the look by choosing a few statement pieces in a gold finish. (Here you can find it both on the lights and range hood.) Then, keep it otherwise simple so your focal points can really glimmer.

12

Choose a Contrast Moody Hue

Get the blues in the best way! Navy is a gorgeous, bold color, that can help create a moody atmosphere without much lift. However, it’s also a neutral in its own right. Paired with contrasting flooring or standout wood beams, darker colors are a style statement that will make your kitchen look straight out of a magazine.
