Much like votive candle holders, taper candle holders add an extra touch of style to a simple household item. We all love the look of candles lining a dinner table or casting a warm glow when you have company over. You can even use them as decor and position them on your fireplace mantel for a stylish vignette, or finish off your entryway table with a few in various heights. But did you know they’re also super easy to DIY? Yep, those chic color block wooden candle holders you’re seeing everywhere? You can make them yourself right at home.
We all know how talented Linda is at her DIYs (have you seen her DIY wall hanging how-to yet?), and today, she’s walking us through how she made these cute candlestick holders using just a few affordable supplies. “The bright colors and geometric bases remind me of the bead mazes we used to play with as little kids. I always tried to push all of them at once!” she says. Ready to add an extra spark to your holiday table with these color block candlesticks? Follow her six simple steps below. With a little wood, glue, and paint, you’ll have a festive accent for anywhere in your home.
Supply List
- Industrial strength glue (such as E6000)
- Metal pipe fittings (7/8 inch diameter)
- Spray wood varnish
- Taper candles

Step 1: Remove Screws and Staples
Use pliers to remove any screws or staples from the wooden legs and feet.

Step 2: Paint the Wood
Paint the wooden shapes in your desired colors. Let dry, and apply a second coat if needed.

Step 3: Glue Pieces Together
Once your wooden pieces are dry, glue them together to form your candlestick. Let glue dry completely.

Step 4: Varnish
Using a spray paint varnish, coat the candlesticks and leave to dry.

Step 5: Glue the Pipe Fitting
Using an industrial strength adhesive, glue a metal pipe fitting to the top of the candlestick. Let dry.

Step 6: Insert Candles
Insert your favorite taper candles into the metal fitting. Voilà! Now, you’re ready to entertain.
